The 5 Element Theory of Addiction

As you well know, VIDA Wellness is offers treatment for many ailments including

addiction at our facility in Costa Rica. In addition to treating

those with addiction, we also provide treatment and education via several services

based the “5 Element Theory”. Today and in the upcoming weeks, I’d like to incorporate,

along with our coverage of the “5 Element Theory” basics, some of the information on

how VIDA Wellness utilizes the “5 Element Theory” to treat clients with drug addictions.

Primarily, we begin by determining the client’s formal drug addiction/diagnosis. Once

their diagnosis has been finalized, explained and basic psycho-education offered, we

continue with treatment proven effective through the “5 Element Theory”.

A client’s addiction diagnosis is determined by consulting with our entire clinical team

and referencing the DSM-V manual of mental illnesses following discussion about the 5

element imbalances present. For example, we examine a client with addiction, who

typically presents with deficiencies in the kidneys, liver, lungs and heart and treat by

way of an individualized treatment plan. The 5 Element Theory allows us to effectively

simplify a client’s addiction symptoms and treat them individually while still insuring a

holistic healing approach.

Too often, an addict consults with a licensed addiction professional for treatment and is

led to believe that simply complying with weekly counseling sessions and maintaining

daily prescribed medications will release them from addiction. Fortunately, at VIDA we

are able to truly treat an addict holistically by way of consultation and therapy with a

Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, MD, Eastern Medicine Practitioner and Yoga

Professional that is able to offer an array of treatments that compliments overall

recovery.

Generally, the Cycle of Addiction functions in a way that feeds into its own imbalances.

It typically begins with a deep-ceded fear (Water/Belief) that is stagnant. The fear

becomes active when the addict begins to search for release of the fear (Wood/Motion).

The motivation to continue to feed the fear (Fire/Desire) creates a rooted imbalance that

eventually becomes their norm of functioning daily. The results of these efforts (Earth/

Manifestation) often leads to consultation with a Psychiatrist and the prescribing of

medication (“the band-aid”) that numbs their fear rather than treat the root cause. The

addict’s decision to either comply with medication recommendations or not (Metal/

Surrender or Support) will determine whether the Cycle of Addiction is reinforced or not.

By maintaining a truly holistic view of addiction, all of VIDA’s treatment resources can be

utilized with much more reliable effectiveness leading to healing. The VIDA clinical team

is confident that the result of pursuing our passion for healing and balance will reveal

our client’s true pain and its origins. Here in lies the freedom to live again on their terms.
